Animal deaths and massive displacement .. Many disasters caused by torrential rainfall in Tihama
The images of livestock deaths due to rain torrents in the Tihama area in Al-Hudaydah governorate, western Yemen, sparked widespread reactions and sadness among Yemenis.
Activists on social media circulated pictures showing some of the affected families in Tihama areas from the torrential rains, standing next to the animals and livestock that drowned in the torrents, in a sad scene that adds pain to the miseries of the simple citizens who are among the poorest Yemeni families.
Several Yemeni governorates have seen continuous torrential rains since Friday and lasted for several days, causing great losses of property and lives.
Thirteen citizens died due to the floods, most of them from one family, and 50 homes were washed away, and a number of schools were damaged in the districts of Al-Zahra, Al-Qanawas and Al-Lahia in Al-Hodeidah governorate.
The torrents isolated the villages of Al-Qanawas District, and caused the death of a number of animals and livestock, while dozens of families left for neighboring villages.
The National Charity Coalition also issued a statement denouncing the media’s disregard for all parties to the conflict in Yemen and their failure to cover these disasters that afflicted the citizens in the villages and cities of Al Hudaydah as if they did not fall within the geographies of the Republic of Yemen.
The statement said:
The National Charity Coalition is following with great concern the environmental and humanitarian disasters that have occurred due to the rains and torrents in some villages and cities north of the city of Al-Hodeidah Al-Qanawas, Al-Lahia, Al-Zahra and Al-Munira, which led to catastrophic losses of lives and properties to the residents of these remote areas.
Accordingly, we are in the National Accordance Coalition
1: Appeal
Active international and local organizations should bear their responsibilities and provide immediate relief to the affected population and provide the necessary shelter requirements for those who lost their homes and properties as a result of these floods.
2: We condemn
The media of all parties to the conflict in Yemen strongly ignored and did not cover these disasters that afflicted the citizens in the villages and cities of Hodeidah, as if they did not fall within the geography of the Republic of Yemen
3: will continue
The leadership of the coalition is to follow up on all developments related to the event up-to-date and what will result from that. God is the guardian of success and guidance.
Therefore, it is the duty of the state and all organizations and capitals to hasten to provide relief to the people of Tihama.
